In my initial email to all my lovely students after we switched over to online learning, I wrote:
Life is a rich tapestry of the glorious, the unexpected, and the disastrous all woven together in one brightly colored tangle. Somewhere in the middle of this, we have to find a small slice of quiet inside our hearts and heads. Maybe even five seconds of stillness. Or two seconds. Even if it isn’t enough to give us full serenity, everything starts somewhere. We are surrounded by beauty and wisdom in the midst of it all. To quote one of my favorite authors and artists Maggie Stiefvater in a post she made today about her coping strategies for social distancing, “Remember at the end of the day what makes you feel right, even when the world is wrong.” For her, what makes her feel right is creating. She’s a writer, musician, and illustrator. For me, that’s reading, writing, and being an expert at scratching kitty chins. You do you, but try to find that little slice of what makes you feel right. Make a funny Tik Tok video, be good to your friends, listen to some good music, bake something yummy. Unplug and pray or meditate.
I've been trying to take my own advice, which is always difficult to do! However, I think it's important and good for the soul to do this... so... welcome to Quarantine Time with Dr. C! I'll be documenting my efforts to keep creating and keep enjoying the good things in life.
